The typewriter indeed revolutionized business. It was invented by a man named Christopher Sholes in 1866. The typewriter "Is a small machine, either electric or manual, with type keys that produced characters one at a time on a piece of paper inserted around a roller" The typewriter was very similar to the modern day computer. The early typewriters buttons were often jammed when hit. With the help of his business partners, Samuel Soule and Carlos Glidden Christopher Sholes were able to improve the typewriter after many years of work. It took five years, many patents, and many experiments to do this. But since Sholes knew that he would have trouble marketing the product he sold the rights of it to James Densmore. Densmore then convinced Philo Remington (the rifle manufacturer) to market the device. In 1874, the first typewriter called "Sholes & Glidden Typewriter" was available to the public. The first typewriter was not very successful. After a few years, and more work, Remington engineers made the typewriter
very popular.
The typewriter had a lasting impact of history. It changed the life of many Americans and of many businesses. In offices, business men and women were able to type things faster and easier than handwriting. The typewriter revolutionized offices and lead to many new typing inventions.
The typewriter not only made it possible for easier ways of communicating, it also opened new ideas for the printing press. The new printing press created newspapers, magazines, and books faster and it was cleaner because it didn’t work like a giant stamper.
When the first computer was being developed, the designers needed a way to type. The keyboard opened a gateway to numerous ideas for typing and communicating.
The home printer would never have been invented without computer keyboards. You would type things on the typewriter and then pull your finished paper out of the top. But, if there was no typing, there would be no printer. The home printer gave people a way to type and print things faster at will.
Many new electric devices use keyboards. Texting would not be known to the world because there would be no keyboards on the phone. The keyboards on phones inspired new ideas for typing. People wanted to make a new version of phone typing. The touch screen keyboard was invented to make phones smaller and less bulky.
Typewriters will affect the future because with the current spin of technology will probably not use physical typewriters/keyboards but instead use touchscreens with a typewriter/keyboard U.I.(User Interface) I believe that the touchscreen typewriter/keyboard will evolve into a holograph-like U.I. This means it will seem physical but it will come out of a projector. The concept is actually already in use for products like the iPad, iPhone, android phone, etc. of course I think that this concept will evolve further to devices like computers, projectors, cash registers, and even TVs!
The typewriter will also make an impact because of the way the characters are arranged. They are arranged in an order in which the words are easiest way to type and not in binary code or alphabetic order. Although some people have been said to come up with supposedly more efficient ways to type. One of the popular ideas is the dovark keyboard. This switch is being debated and could be a subject to change. This means that the current way we type could change in the upcoming years.
